This coming Saturday October 17th will be your final opportunity to perform volunteer trail work for the 2009 season! If you have been meaning to get out there this is your chance!
The project will be run by an Eagle Scout candidate under the supervision of FOMP. Teak Guffin is the Eagle Scout candidate and will be running a crew of scouts and volunteers on the Limbaugh Canyon Trail #715 for most of Saturday. If you are able and planning on attending please contact Jon Nordby at 719-640-1347, or jnordby@yahoo.com, and copy Teak Guffin at guffinr@msn.com. Teak will be arranging lunch for those who plan on working both morning and afternoon so it is important that you let them know if you are going to do so.
Even if you only have a few hours in the morning, the group will be leaving the McDonalds in Monument at 7:30am sharp. They are driving up Mt Herman road ~3 miles from the intersection at Red Rock Ranch, and parking where #715 trail crosses Mt Herman at the no-shooting sign. Jon’s old Dodge truck full of tools will be there by 8am. From there the crew is hiking in , North towards Limbaugh Canyon, about 1.5 miles in to the project site which will be not far from the first creek crossing as you travel North on #715.
The crew plans on working past the lunch hour into the afternoon.
FOMP and USFS provide all necessary tools. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for performing outdoor landscaping type of work, leather gloves, bring their own personal water supply, eye protection, sunscreen.
Thanks and we hope you can join us!
