Electric Motorcycles use on Local USFS Non-Motorized Trails

The Monument Fire Center and the Mt Herman area have seen a proliferation of e-Motos or Electric Motorcycles on USFS non-motorized trails throughout the region. Electric Motorcycles like the Sur-Ron (shown above) utilize a large battery and an electric motor to power the units; they are plain and simple a motorcycle. They are not e-Bikes, have no pedals, are only throttle assist, and are not allowed on any non-motorized singletrack trail in the greater Mt Herman area. They can be used on any of the roads within the region, such as Mt Herman, and any of the upper USFS-designated roads meant for motorized vehicles.

Please refer to the USFS Motor Vehicle User Map or MVUM at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r02/psicc/maps-guides/motor-vehicle-use-maps, which displays National Forest System roads, trails, and areas designated as open to motorized travel by vehicle class (e.g., highway-legal vehicles, vehicles less than 50 inches wide, and motorcycles) and season of use. You can download the Pikes Peak Ranger District PDF from the url.

Please don’t use Electric Motorcycles on non-motorized singletrack trails, and stick to the approved roads.
