Tree Planting
April 16 – Saturday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – FOMP will be planting 350 seedlings in the Preserve! And that means we need volunteers! We should be done by noon, or perhaps a little earlier if we have a good turnout. Folks should bring gloves and water and a daypack or small backpack, but should not need lunch. We will have trees, shelters, stakes and tools staged at the trailhead. Meet at the Nursery/Shilling Parking lot at 9:00 AM. Dianne Strohm is the coordinator for this project ( dstrohm AT kellin.net but she doesn’t carry a newfangled phone so be sure to reach out ahead of time if you need to get more information)

Annual Hot Shots and Helitac Crew Dinner
April 28 – Thursday 5:30PM – every year FOMP hosts a pot luck dinner for the Hot Shot and Helitac crew based in the Preserve. We will have dinner ready for the crews at 5:30pm. Drop in and meet the great team that will be based right here in the Preserve this summer as they wind down their training and get ready to go out on the firelines. FOMP runs this as a potluck style operation so please bring some food this is a hungry bunch and we could always use more!

* Casseroles, crock pot dishes,etc.. for the main course.
* Salads, breads, fruit and desserts to accompany the meal.

The FOMP coordinator for the event is Diane Bandle and she can be reached at dmbandle AT hotmail.com. FOMP and USFS provide all necessary tools. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for performing outdoor landscaping type of work. Volunteers should bring leather gloves, a personal water supply, eye protection, sunscreen, and bug repellent. We meet rain or shine unless there is lightning active in the area. In the event that you are joining us late we always leave a note at the trail head parking lot or you can call Jon Nordby (719.640.1347) or Chris Tirpak (719.439.8865) to find out where in the Preserve we are working that evening.

We make every effort to accommodate volunteer preferences and abilities at each event. Generally we perform activities such as water bar building or renovation, trail renovation, maintenance, and trimming, etc. So, pretty much everything from trimming back scrub oak or digging lots of dirt to moving boulders. We assign duties based on interest and capabilities. Kids are welcome to join their parents; however, we do ask that you evaluate whether this is an appropriate activity for your child or not.

Extra Trail Work Session!

FOMP will be holding an extra trail work night!

Tuesday June 22 at 6:00 PM – Trail work!

Due to the overwhelming amount of work we have to do this summer and the increased usage we will be holding an extra trail work session to try and catch up. We will probably be adding more of these later this summer on an ad-hoc basis.

Tree Project May 25 – Tuesday at 6:00 PM

FOMP will host a Seedling and Tree work session Tuesday night!

May 25 – Tuesday at 6:00 PM – Seedling and Trees get some Tender loving care!

Sorry for the late notice we’ve just been able to schedule this event.

FOMP will be working to “release” seedling trees that are being over run by scrub oak. We will provide all tools. For this project we will be meeting out on the trail rather than in the parking lot. We will meet on Trail 715 on the South side of the old Berry Fire burn area near the Y on 715 up above Yucca Meadow. (this is in the SW corner of the Preserve on 715 – taoo access via the trails go in from the gate on the South side of the preserve and head toward Memorial Grove and then up trail 715 – stay on 715 until you find us)

Let’s meet on 715 at the Y intersection there, 6pm. If you are late, no worries, we’ll be nearby. It is easy to get there hiking/biking in from either Mt Herman road up high or from Memorial Grove down low. The canopy looks like it is coming in right now, lots of the oak is budding out.

Anyone unsure of where to meet can call Jon Nordby. cell: 719-640-1347.

FOMP and USFS provide all necessary tools. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for performing outdoor landscaping type of work. Volunteers should bring leather gloves, a personal water supply, eye protection, sunscreen, and bug repellent.

Thanks and we hope to see you out there soon!
